Why Time Shares Are A Poor Investment

Buying a timeshare could be one of the worst investments you could make. Instead of paying $15,000 to $75,000 for a time share, put the money in a vacation fund. The yield will pay for stays at comparable hotels and you won't lose your principal. And you won't be stuck paying annual maintenance fees of $700 to $1500 if you don't use the timeshare in a given year. If you're tempted to buy a timeshare, keep in mind that the same unit is being sold up to 26 times (two weeks for each buyer). Then ask yourself if you would consider a total purchase price of $400,000 to $2 million. If not, walk away.
